September is the big fashion month, with the so called ‘Big Four’ fashion events taking place. For 2019, the fall fashion season is kicked off with New York Fashion Week followed by London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and then closing out with the Paris Fashion Week.

It’s a time to see what will be hot and fashionable in the upcoming season with fashionistas and style connoisseurs flitting from one fashion capital to the next to attend all the 'important' shows. While clothes are the main feature, accessories, such as sunglasses are just as important to the fashion conscious.

From what we can see at the opener, NYFW 2019, when it comes to eyewear designers are embracing shields and sharp edges! A wide range of sunglasses worn by models on the runway revealed a comeback of shield sunglasses together with trends capitalising on more sporty, sharp structures. 

The colour themes are expected to include bright red frames as showcased by Versace earlier in spring as well as black and yellow coloured lenses in translucent frames. Large or over-sized sunglasses were still the norm and worn on and off the runway. Vintage inspired frames are also sure to inspire the trends that are coming out of the 'Big Four'.

The latter was evident by the Michael Kors collection with a nostalgic trip back to the 40's and 50's. The eyewear showcased in the Spring 2020 Ready To Wear Show featuring thick-framed sunglasses with tortoiseshell and dark tinted lenses as well as classic Aviator styles.

Alexander Wang and Bvlgari held one of the most anticipated party's celebrating the designer's collaboration with the famous jewellery brand. Bedazzled eyewear is another continuing trend from the brand that has become the epitome of luxury. 

Burberry were another fashion giant who under the creative leadership of Riccardo Tisci, which showcased a bold collection with bright mashed up colours and aggressive patterns. The iconic British brand featured oversized and vintage check geometric frames. Triangular shaped frames with elegant gold detailing and embellishments are another feature of the Burberry signature eyewear range designed by Tisci.

Sunglasses remain a key fashion accessory with many designers showcasing statement eyewear. Be sure to check out the looks from the rest of September to see what will be guiding the eyewear trends for the coming season.
